New Mahindra SUVs To Be Launched In India: 5-Door Thar

Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown automaker has recently cancelled its partnership with Ford Motor Company. Under this partnership, the duo will be developing new SUVs and MPVs for the Indian as well as foreign markets. Mahindra officially confirms that this development won’t have any impact on its product plan for the Indian market.

The company is reportedly planning to launch 7 new SUVs in the next 1-2 years. Adding to it, the brand will enter into new SUV segment which is currently dominated by Hyundai Group. In this article, we bring you a list of upcoming new Mahindra SUVs to be launched in the country in the next couple of years –

New XUV500

Upcoming Cars Under 20 Lakhs

Mahindra will introduce the new XUV500 SUV around March-April 2021. The new model will be based on the front-wheel-drive monocoque platform, which will also underpin the new Ford C-SUV. The new model will ride on longer wheelbase, which should help Mahindra designers to carve out more space inside the cabin. The new-gen Mahindra XUV500 will be equipped with several segment-leading comfort and convenience features along with segment-first ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

The new XUV500 will rival the likes of the new Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus. The new model will be offered with 6- and 7-seat options. It will be offered with two engine options – a 190bhp, 2.0L turbocharged petrol and a 180bhp, 2.2L turbocharged diesel Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

New Scorpio

BS6 Mahindra Scorpio

The long-awaited new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in the mid-2021. The new model will be based on the new ladder-on-frame chassis, which also underpins the new XUV500. It will be bigger and bolder than the previous model, and will be equipped with several segment-leading comfort and convenience features.

It will share the engine options with the new Thar, but in different states of tunes. The diesel version will get a 2.2-litre engine with power close to 160bhp, while the petrol version will have a 2.0-litre turbo engine producing close to 152bhp. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

5-Door Thar

The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra will introduce the long-wheelbase version of the new Thar. It will be a 5-door model, and the longer wheelbase will allow Mahindra to create more cabin space. It will be position against the new Force Gurkha and the upcoming 5-door Suzuki Jimny. It will retain the existing engine options, which includes a 152bhp, 2.0-litre petrol and a 132bhp, 2.2-litre diesel. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Four-wheel-drive system with a manual-shift transfer case will come as standard. 

TUV300 Facelift

Mahindra will introduce the facelifted version of the TUV300 compact SUV, which has been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The updated model will have new grille, revised bumper with a trapezoidal air dam, revised headlams, rectangular fog lamps and re-positioned LED DRLs. Under the hood, the facelifted TUV300 will house the BS6-compliant 1.5L, 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. In its BS4 form, the motor pushes out a peak power of 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. The power and torque figures of the updated engine are likely to remain same.

XUV300 Sportz

Mahindra will launch the more powerful version of the XUV300 compact SUV. Called the XUV300 Sportz, the new model will receive the new 1.2-litre mStallion enginbe. This turbo-petrol direct injection (TGDI) engine is capable of producing 130bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. Transmission options will include an all-new 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Aisin. The SUV is likely to feature Sportz moniker on front doors, new body graphics and red-finished front brake calipers. Unlike the standard model, the XUV300 Sportz will have all-black interior theme with sporty red contrast stitching on the seas and red highlights on the dashboard.

eKUV100

Mahindra eKUV100 Launch

The homegrown automaker will introduce the electrified version of the eKUV100 mini SUV in the next couple of months. The company had announced the prices of the electric SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. It was tagged at Rs 8.25 lakh, making it India’s most affordable electric car. The electric SUV derives its power from a 40 kW electric motor that offers 53bhp and 120Nm of torque. It has a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that will offer a range of 120km on a full charge. Mahindra will offer the vehicle with both standard and fast-charging options. While the charging time and details are yet to be revealed by the carmaker, the SUV might take around an hour to get charged up to 80% via DC fast charger.

eXUV300

Mahindra XUV300 Electric SUV

Mahindra had showcased the eXUV300 electric SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company has announced that the electric SUV will be its global product, and will be launched in Europe in 2021-22. The new Mahindra electric subcompact SUV will be placed against the Tata Nexon EV and is estimated to be priced around Rs 12 lakh – Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mahindra eXUV300 will be offered with two battery options – 40kWh (standard) and 60kWh (long-range). While the former will offer range around 300km, the latter one will deliver a range over 450km.
