Mahindra has recently launched the new Scorpio in the country, which has received an overwhelming response from buyers. The new model comes with new underpinnings and a newly formulated 5-speed manual transmission; however, the company hasn’t launched the automatic transmission version of the SUV.
Recent spyshots of the new Scorpio suggest that the homegrown automaker will soon introduce the automatic variant of the SUV. The test mule features ‘automatic’ badging on the front door cladding, which was also offered on the previous generation Scorpio AT.
Under the hood, the Scorpio AT will continue to be powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit that develops 120bhp and 280Nm of torque. It is expected to get new six-speed automatic transmission. It was speculated that Mahindra could opt for Automated Manual Transmission; however, nothing has been revealed on the same. If media reports are to be believed, the company could use the new 6-speed unit that is developed by Ssanyong for the new X100 compact SUV. The same unit would be used in XUV500 as well.
The new Mahindra Scorpio AT is expected to go on sale in 2015. It is likely to be priced around Rs. 1 lakh more than the regular variant.
