Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown UV maker is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited new-gen Thar SUV in India. The company is also testing the next-gen Scorpio and the next XUV500, which are scheduled to be launched in 2021. The new Mahindra Scorpio 2021 will receive significant design changes and new interior along with new set of engines. Here are 5 things you need to know about the new Scorpio SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2021.

1. All-New 2.0-litre Diesel Engine

The next-gen Scorpio will receive a newly developed 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which will also power the XUV500 and the Thar. Set to replace the 2.2-litre unit, the new engine will offer 3 different states of tunes. While powering the new Mahindra Scorpio 2021, this engine is likely to produce close to 160bhp of power and more than 350Nm of torque. It will receive a newly developed 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 4WD system as optional.

2. New 2.0-litre, mStallion Petrol Engine

Mahindra had unveiled the new mStallion engine range at the 2020 Auto Expo. The range includes 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged, a 1.5-litre, turbocharged and a 2.0-litre turbocharged. These engines are BS6 compliant and will be able to meet CAFE and upcoming stricter emission norms scheduled to commence from 2023.

The new Mahindra Scorpio 2021 will receive the new 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of producing 190bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

3. Modified Platform

The new Scorpio will receive major upgrade under its bonnet. It will be based on a slightly modified version of the body-on-ladder frame, which will also underpin the new Mahindra Thar. Called the ZEN3, the new architecture improves its performance, off-road capabilities and safety quotient of the new Scorpio.

4. Upmarket Interior

Apart from the new design and platform, the new Mahindra Scorpio 2021 will receive significant changes inside the cabin. The quality of plastic material, and fit and finish will surely be classed-up. It will receive newly designed dashboard, a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an electric sunroof, leather seats and Head-Up Display.

5. Bigger and Spacious

The new Mahindra Scorpio 2021 will grow in size, which should help the brand to liberate more space inside the cabin. Thanks to its increased length, the new model will offer front-forward facing third row of seats. Adding to it, the SUV will have increased legroom, headroom and shoulder space for the second row of occupants.
