Kia Motors had announced to launch one new product every six months in India. However, the company is expecting slight delay in future model launches due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Kia Motors is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited Sonet SUV, which will be brand’s third model in India.
Despite sluggish demand, Kia Motors is expecting a positive growth due to arrival of its third model. Speaking to PTI, Manohar Bhat, Kia Motors India Vice-President & Head Marketing and Sales, said, “We had said that every six months we will bring a new vehicle. We are doing that with Sonet after we launched Carnival despite the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Commenting on the future plans, he said, “Going forward we will study the market trend, to see where it is going in the aftermath of COVID-19. We had planned a couple of vehicles. We will see but we intend to carry on with our commitment although there could be some slight delays.”
Kia Motors had invested over USD 2 billion in India. The company has setup a new manufacturing facility at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. This plant has a manufacturing capacity of 3 lakh units annually. The company is hoping that the Sonet will receive positive response from buyers.
The report claims that bookings of Kia’s vehicles have reached pre-COVID levels. Kia Motors is currently working in two-shifts at its plant with monthly production touching “five digita”. Kia Motors already delivered over 1 lakh cars within 11 months of launching its first model Seltos in August 2019.
