The American SUV manufacturer, Jeep is all set to introduce an all-new entry-level SUV in the global markets in 2023. The company has started testing the vehicle on foreign land, as a heavily camouflaged test mule of the new Jeep compact SUV was caught testing earlier this year. A new batch of spy shots of the new Jeep small SUV have hit the web-world.
The latest spy images show off the compact SUV without any covers, revealing the design highlights. To be positioned below the Renegade, the new Jeep compact SUV comes with unique styling with smoother rear-end styling. The SUV shares styling cues from the Jeep Compass. The front fascia features the typical Jeep styling philosophy, featuring iconic Jeep’s grille. Instead of seven-slots, the front grille comes with seven closed-off rings. This confirmed that the new Jeep compact SUV is an EV (Electric Vehicle).
It will be the brand’s first purpose-built pure electric Jeep. The new model is expected to be based on PSA Groupe’s e-CMP (electric Common Modular Platform) Platform. Alfa Romeo and Fiat will also introduce electric crossovers based on the same platform. The new Jeep electric crossover will be developed at its Polish plant in Tychy.
The latest spy images confirm that the production-ready version looks largely identical to the render reveal earlier this year by Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares. The SUV has heavily flared arches, chunky black cladding, a dual-tone colour scheme and iconic Jeep’s 7-slot grille. It is a more urban-oriented SUV, which will be positioned below the Renegade in Jeep’s line-up.
The new Jeep compact SUV will help the American SUV maker to increase its footprints and enter new segments with a brand-new powertrain. Jeep has already announced to introduce electric versions of its entire line-up in the near future. It is estimated to measure around 4.10 meters in length, which will make it smaller than the Renegade measuring 4.23 meters length.
The new Jeep compact SUV is expected to come with new a pure gasoline engine or a hybrid setup. Rumoured to be called the Jeepster, the new Jeep electric SUV will feature a 50kWh lithium-ion battery and a front-mounted 10kW electric motor. It will promise a range of around 321km. The carmaker has confirmed that its upcoming small SUV will offer AWD (all-wheel drive) system. That means, it will be the first vehicle in its segment to offer 4X4 capabilities.
The new Jeep small SUV is reportedly to feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is likely to produce close to 130bhp. Both manual and automatic gearbox are likely to be on offer. The electric version is likely to arrive in the first half of 2023 or by the end of 2022. The India-spec model could arrive in 2023-24.
