Riding high on the success of Compass, the American SUV manufacturer – Jeep is now planning to tap the sub-4 meter SUV segment in India. Jeep CEO Mike Manley has confirmed an all-new sub-four-metre SUV for the Indian market. The statement has been made at FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles)’s five-year plan announcement. Designed for the emerging markets, the new Jeep sub-compact SUV will share its platform with the new-generation Fiat Panda (4X4) small car.
In the company’s Indian lineup, this new model will be placed below the Jeep Renegade. Upon launch, it will lock horns against multiple cars including the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon.

Jeep’s new compact SUV is likely to feature the signature SUV-like design and styling combined with off-road capabilities. This new model will come with a completely new set of engines. Rumour has that it might get a 118bhp, 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine, which is already powering the Maruti S-Cross. Though, no official word has been made on the same.

With an aim to achieve competitive pricing, the America SUV maker will produce the vehicle using locally-sourced components at its Rajangaon based plant. The new Jeep compact SUV is estimated to be priced between Rs 8 lakh – Rs 10 lakh in India.
Besides the sub-four-metre SUV, the American carmaker has also confirmed a new “three-row mid-size UV (utility vehicle)’ for the Indian market. Globally, the company will launch four electric models and ten plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2022. The new Wrangler pickup and the Grand Wagonner are scheduled to launch by 2022. Jeep also aims to increase production capacity of FCA’s Ranjangaon, Maharashtra based facility from 1,60,000 units to 2,40,000 units. The carmaker will also expand its service centers and dealership network across the country.
