New Hyundai SUV (Fortuner Rival) Under Consideration For India

Hyundai India aims to tap the 7-seater premium SUV segment that’s currently ruled by Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The carmaker says that it’s currently studying the segment and reviewing customers’ response and their preferences. Earlier, the company had Santa Fe 7-seater SUV in this segment that was discontinued in 2017 due to poor sales. At present, Hyundai has four SUVs in its Indian product portfolio namely – Venue, Creta, Tucson and Kona EV. The SUVs contribute 33% to the total sales of South Korean carmaker. The company aims to become India’s leading passenger vehicle carmaker by expanding its SUV and EV lineup.

Hyundai is also considering a new MPV (multi purpose vehicle) for the Indian market. It’s likely to be put up against the cars like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo. The carmaker has also confirmed an affordable electric vehicle that’s likely to take on the Tata Nexon EV. The electric range of the vehicle might be between 200km – 300km.

The second-generation Hyundai Creta was recently launched in the country. On coming 26th March, the carmaker will roll out the Verna facelift that will come in 3 variants and 6 colour options. The mid-size sedan will witness minor design changes along with a pack of new features. The 2020 Verna facelift will also get BS6-compliant 118bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol, 115bhp, 1.5L petrol and a 115bhp, 1.5L diesel engines.

Previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Hyundai Tucson facelift will also see a release in coming weeks. The SUV lineup will come in three variants with 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options. It will be made available with a 182bhp, 2.0L diesel and a 150bhp, 2.0L petrol engine option. The carmaker has also tweaked its styling and offers a few more features including BlueLink connected car technology.
