New-generation Hyundai Santro has finally arrived in the Indian market. The hatchback was launched in the presence of Shah Rukh Khan and Hyundai’s officials at an event in Delhi. Available in 9 variants spread across 5 trims, the new Hyundai Santro 2018 comes in the price range of Rs 3.89 lakh – Rs 5.64 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The new Hyundai Santro 2018 carline has two CNG and two AMT variants – Magna and Sportz. The CNG models cost Rs 5.23 lakh (Magna) and Rs 5.64 lakh (Sportz), the automated manual transmission models are priced at Rs 5.18 lakh (Magna) and Rs 5.46 lakh (Sportz).
Powering the hatchback is a 1.1L, four-cylinder petrol engine producing 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard across all variants, while the AMT (Smart Auto Technology) is offered only on the Magna and Sportz trims. The CNG version of the new Hyundai Santro 2018 makes 59bhp and 84Nm of torque.
Hyundai says that the new Santro is bigger, wider and more spacious than the old model. It’s 3610mm long, 1645mm wide and 1560mm tall with a wheelbase of 2400mm. It has a fuel tank capacity of 35L.
While the Dlite, Era and Magna variants come with 155/80 R13 steel wheels, the Sportz and Asta trims get 165/70 R14 steel wheels. For damping duties, the new Hyundai Santro 2018 gets McPherson Strut upfront and coupled torsion beam axle rear suspension unit.
Along with the front disc and rear drum brakes, the hatchback gets ABS with EBD as standard safety fitments. The driver airbag, child safety door locks and engine immobilizer are also available across all variants. The top-spec Asta trim exclusively gets front passenger airbag, rear parking sensor, rear camera with display on audio, speed sensing auto door unlock, impact sensing auto door unlock and front seat belt pretensioner with load limiter.
Other key features include a 6.35cm advanced multi information display, 2-DIN integrated audio with FM/AM, steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth mounted controls, Hyundai iBlue app, Eco coating technology, front and rear power windows, electrically adjustable outside door mirrors, etc.
The new Hyundai Santro 2018 continues to carry the signature tall boy stance. Though, it gets new chrome surround front grille, body-coloured bumpers and ORVMs and turn indicators on outside door mirrors.
