South Korean automaker Hyundai will unveil the new generation i20 hatchback at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. However, our sources revealed that the new model is likely to be unveiled in the Indian car market on August 11. Since India is an important market for Hyundai, so there is a strong possibility of the i20 making its global debut in India. The new generation i10, christened as the Grand i10, too made its global debut here. Moreover, the new generation i20 launch could take place by festive season. The new hatchback looks more appealing and gets changes to both exteriors as well as interiors.
The new generation Hyundai i20 could be sold as Grand i20, just like the Grand i10 hatchback. This hatchback will share its design cues with the Grand i10 and the Xcent compact sedan. The most noticeable change is given to the front fascia which now features low mounted grille, flanked by the sweptback headlamps. Its new hood has prominent likes which gives it a V-shaped bonnet design. The sweptback headlamps get metal inserts and the matte black strip is placed right below the grille.
The small C pillar gives it a sloping roof and the rising shoulder line offers a sporty character. The rear profile of the hatchback gets elongated wrap around tail lamps, making it look upmarket. It is equipped with a longer wheelbase which in return offers a spacious and comfortable cabin. Under the bonnet, the new i20 is likely to get the same 89bhp, 1.4-litre diesel engine and 83bhp, 1.2-litre Kappa engine. The company might also upgrade the automatic transmission, which is likely to be a five-speed version instead of 4-speed gearbox in current model.
