New Hyundai i20 gets 118bhp Turbo-Petrol Engine – Launch Soon

The much-awaited new Hyundai i20 will finally make its public debut at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show which is set to happen on March 3, 2020. The new model will first go on sale in India in mid-2020, most probably around June-July 2020. It comes with comprehensive design changes, all-new interior and new engine and gearbox combinations.

The new i20 is powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which also powers the Venue compact SUV, Aura sub-4 meter sedan and the Grand i10 Nios in different states of tunes. The engine is available in 2 states of tunes – 99bhp/172Nm and 118bhp/172Nm. The 118bhp variant will also be benefitted with a 48-volt mid-hybrid system, which Hyundai claims to offer reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. 2020 Hyundai i20

The India-spec model is likely to receive the 99bhp, 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that currently powers the Nios Turbo and Aura. Hyundai could also opt for a fuel efficient mild-hybrid version for the Indian market. Besides this, the new Hyundai i20 will also receive an 83bhp, 1.2-litre petrol and a BSVI compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Dimensionally, the new Hyundai i20 is 5mm longer and 30mm wider, and it sits lower by 24mm. Hyundai has increased the wheelbase by 10mm to create more legroom space for the rear occupants. The 2020 Hyundai i20 comes equipped with host of comfort and convenience features. It gets a large all-digital instrument console, a segment-largest 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car technology, ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger and a Bose premium audio system. The new Hyundai i20 is expected to be priced slightly higher than the outgoing model. It is likely to be priced between Rs 5.80 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Once launched, the new i20 will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo.
