New Hyundai Small Electric Car For Europe – India EV Plan Details

Hyundai Motor Group aims to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio to 23 models by 2025. The upcoming Hyundai BEVs (battery electric vehicles) will be based on its new E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) architecture that will debut in India with the Ioniq 5 electric crossover. For the European market, the company is developing an entry-level electric hatchback that will cost around 20,000 euros (approx. Rs 16.29 lakh). It could be introduced as a replacement of the Hyundai i10. In Europe, it will be positioned against the Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatch.

The South Korean automaker plans to introduce 11 more electric cars in the European market by 2030. The company recently unveiled the Hyundai Ioniq 6 that will enter into production in the third quarter of this year and its market launch will happen by the end of 2022. Based on the E-GMP architecture, the model comes with a 77.4kWh battery and single-motor rear wheel and dual motor all-wheel drive options. It’s dual-motor AWD version makes power worth 320kW and 605Nm of torque. It can do 0 to 100kmph in 5.1 seconds. Hyundai claims that the Ioniq 6 can attain a range of 610km on the WLTP cycle.

As of now, there is no official word on the new Hyundai electric hatchback’s India launch. Though, the company has confirmed that it will introduce its first EV in India in 2023. Called the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the electric crossover will be assembled here via CKD (completely knocked down) kit. It will take directly on the newly-launched Kia EV6.

Globally, the Ioniq 5 is offered with a 58kWh battery and a single 169bhp motor and a 72.6kWh battery with two motors (217bhp/306bhp). In India, the South Korean automaker will bring in its smaller 58kWh battery pack model. Hyundai has also planned a Made-in-India EV that’s reported to hit roads sometime in 2024.
