New Hyundai Cars To Be Launched In India: New SUVs & MPV

In order to further improve sales, Hyundai is planning to introduce multiple new SUVs and cars in the highly competitive Indian market. The company will soon launch a new 7-seater SUV based on the Creta platform, which will be followed by a new micro SUV. In this article, we talk about the upcoming new Hyundai cars and SUVs to be launched in the Indian market in the next 1-2 years –

New Hyundai Alcazar

Korean automaker, Hyundai will launch the new Alcazar 7-seater SUV in the next 2-3 months. It is basically the 7-seater SUV based on the Creta platform. Compared to the Creta, the SUV’s wheelbase has been raised by 150mm. This will help Hyundai to create more space inside the cabin. The SUV also gets design changes, as it get elongated body, flatter roof and all-new rear profile.

The Hyundai Alcazar will be offered in 6 and 7-seat layouts. While the 6-seater model will have captain seats for the second row, the 7-seater will get bench-type seat for the second row. The SUV will rival the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700. It will be offered with two engine options – a 159PS, 2.0L petrol engine and a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo-charged diesel engine.

Hyundai is preparing a new micro SUV, codenamed Hyundai AX1, which will be introduced in India in the end of 2021 or early 2022. The micro SUV has been spotted testing in Korea and some European countries. The new model will be based on the Grand i10 Nios platform. It will be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 NXT and the upcoming Tata HBX.

The upcoming Hyundai AX1 could be powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. While powering the i10 Nios, this engine produces 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. The SUV could also receive the Santro’s 1.1L engine that offers 67bhp and 100Nm of torque. Transmission choices might include 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox option.

2021 Hyundai Tucson Specs

Korean automaker, Hyundai is planning to introduce the next generation Tucson SUV in India in 2022. However, the company is yet to make an official announcement on the launch timeline. The new model is already on sale in select international markets where, it is available in long-wheelbase variant as well as in short-wheelbase variant. India is likely to get the LWB variant.

The India-spec model is likely to get the 2.5-litre inline 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 190bhp and 260Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Hyundai is reportedly working on a new multi-purpose vehicle for India and other Asian markets. This MPV is expected to be based on the new Creta’s platform, which is compatible to accommodate different body styles and engine options including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. In terms of pricing, the new MPV will be positioned between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova. It will directly rival the Mahindra Marazzo. The MPV is likely to be offered with two engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel.

Hyundai is expected to launch the next-gen Elantra sedan in India in the end of 2022. Already on sale in select international markets, the new Hyundai Elantra  features the brand’s new Sensouous Sportiness design theme, hybrid electric technology and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The sedan is now 2.2 inches longer and 1 inch wider, while the height has been reduced by 0.8 inch. In fact, the wheelbase has been increased by 0.8 inch to create more space inside the cabin. Based on the new K3 platform, the new Hyundai Elantra could receive the 2.0-litre petrol engine in the Indian market.
