New Honda 7-Seater SUV For India Under Consideration – Report

Honda Cars India has some really big plans for the Indian market. This time around, the Japanese automaker will target the highly-competitive SUV segment with two new models. According to a fresh media report, the company will bring in a sub-4 metre SUV to challenge Brezza, Venue and Sonet and a mid-size to rival Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The report further states that Honda is considering 6 and 7-seater versions of its new mid-size SUV to target wider audience. If launched, the new Honda 7-seater SUV will take head-to-head against the Hyundai Alcazar and Tata Safari. Internal sales estimates of the SUV are around 4,100 units per month. The carmaker might use the new-generation Honda BR-V (global-spec) platform for its new 7-seater SUV.

The new Honda mid-size SUV is reported to have the brand’s e:Archieture that’s used in the City Hybrid. In fact, its screen system and powertrain will be borrowed from the hybrid sedan. The latter comes with unique Atkinson Cycle 1.5L, 4-cylinder engine paired to two electric motors. The new Honda mid-size SUV will also be offered with petrol and diesel engines carried over from the City. It will measure around 4.3 metre in length. Its design and styling might be inspired by the RS concept SUV that features angular wraparound headlamps, a new grille,, fog lamps with vertical slats and nearly designed bumper with a wide airdam.

The carmaker might offer its new compact SUV with multiple engines sourced from the Amaze. There could be a 1.5L i-DTEC diesel and a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol motor. The gasoline unit with mild hybrid or strong hybrid tech could also be on offer. The report says that the company expects to retail around 6,200 units of the vehicle on monthly basis.
