New generation Toyota Innova to come by 2016

Toyota Innova MPV

Launched in 2005, Toyota Innova has been the country’s top selling multi-purpose vehicle. However, the vehicle is now facing stiff competition in the Indian market. Since its launch, the company hasn’t given meaningful update to this model, as it was doing tremendous business. Over the years, the Innova gets slight tweaks and few features; however, the mechanics of the car remains unchanged. Now, Toyota is working on an all-new Innova MPV for the Indian car market. Along with the MPV, the company will also launch the new Fortuner SUV in India.

If media reports to believe, the new generation Innova and Fortuner will be based on an all new platform named as Toyota New Global Architecture. The current generation model is based on Hilux based vehicles. The new TNGA is a modular platform which reminds us of Volkswagen’s immensely popular MQB platform. With the use of TNGA, the company will be able to share components among cars which are based on this flexible platform.

The new model is expected to be completely different from the current model and is likely to be launched in 2016. The new Innova is expected to get an improved interiors, high end features, aggressive exteriors and better driving dynamics. It might also get some additional equipment like roof mounted antenna, all disc brakes, new multimedia system and many more.

The next generation Toyota Innova is also likely to feature a more powerful engine; however, nothing has been confirmed on the same. Interestingly, Honda is also contemplating the Freed MPV against Innova, which is likely to be launched by 2016. The company will also launch the Mobilio MPV, but it will be priced around 6-10k. So, the new Innova will have to face stiff competition from the likes of Mahindra Xylo, Nissan Evalia, Renault Lodgy, Honda Freed and others.
