In coming years, Tata Motors will expand its product portfolio with a range of new models including the HBX concept based mini SUV, Gravitas 6/7-seater, an all-new MPV and a mid-size sedan. Besides this, the carmaker has lined-up a couple of new electric vehicles and updated version of the existing models. Tata’s three popular models, namely, Tata Nexon subcompact SUV, Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan will witness a generation. As of now, there is no official word on their launch timeline. The new-generation Tata Nexon, Tiago and Tigor are likely to ditch their existing platforms for the new Alfa (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture. For people not in the know, the current generation Tiago and Tigor underpin X0 platform and Nexon has been designed on Tata’s old X1 architecture.
The carmaker claims that the Alfa platform has been designed to accommodate different body styles including hatchbacks, sedans, compact SUVs and MPVs. The Alfa platform provides a flat floor for maximizing legroom. It said to be designed to deliver ample luggage space, rear legroom and utility space around the driver. The new-generation Tata Nexon, Tiago and Tigor are expected to come with improved styling and better equipped interior. The carmaker might equip the new models with some segment-first or advanced goodies. It would be quite early to comment on their engine options.
At present, the Nexon comes with the BS6 1.2L turbo petrol (118bhp/170Nm) and 1.5L turbo diesel (108bhp/260Nm) engines. It can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed AMT transmission. The subcompact SUV will receive a dual-clutch automatic gearbox in coming months. The Tiago and Tigor are available with the BS6 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol (86bhp/113Nm) engine and 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.
