New-Generation Maruti Baleno Launch In 2021 – What to Expect

Maruti Suzuki has a handful of new models for the Indian market. The Indo-Japanese carmaker plans to expand its SUV product lineup with new Jimny compact off-roader, a mid-size SUV and a Baleno-based crossover. Besides this, the company will give a generation change to some of its highly popular models including Alto, Celerio, Baleno and Vitara Brezza. According to a latest media report, the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Baleno will hit roads towards the end of 2021.

As of now, details of the 2021 Maruti Baleno are scanty. Though, the hatchback is likely to receive comprehensive cosmetic changes and feature upgrades. However, the engine setup might be carried forward from the current car that comes with 82bhp, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 89bhp, 1.2L Dualjet petrol SHVS mild hybrid system. Rumour has it that the carmaker might bring back the 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engine with the BS6 upgrade.

If reports are to be believed, the 2021 Maruti Baleno might also be introduced with the stronger 48V hybrid technology called – sHEV 48V. It’s more frugal than the existing petrol SHVS powertrain. Suzuki’s stronger hybrid technology is also reported to be offered on the upcoming Maruti mid-size SUV (YFG) and the Baleno-based crossover (YTB) under the Mission Green Milllion project.

The Indo-Japanese carmaker is reported to re-introduce the 1.5L diesel engine this year. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the new-generation Vitara Brezza could be the first two models to receive the BS6-compliant oil burner. The new 2021 Maruti Baleno might also be a recipient of the updated diesel motor. The company will upgrade its Manesar plant for manufacturing its in-house developed 1.5L diesel engine.

The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno 2021 is likely to witness a price hike of around Rs 50,000. The new model could be priced from Rs 6 lakh for the base variant to Rs 9.50 lakh for the top-end trim. At present, the hatchback model lineup comes in the price range of Rs 5.90 lakh – Rs 9.10 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
