New-generation Mahindra XUV500 spotted for the first time
We have reported earlier that the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 might debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. Ahead of its official unveiling, the all-new model of the SUV has been spotted during its test rounds in the country. The heavily camouflaged prototype reveals that the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will feature a larger grille along with revised headlamps and taillamps.
The roof spoiler and tail gate of the SUV might also be updated. Compared to the current model, the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 features a slightly sloping roof line. The spied model was equipped with the steel wheels. Interior details are yet to be revealed. Though, the spy pictures confirm that it will get a newly-designed steering wheel.
The 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will underpin the all-new monocoque platform that will also be used in the Ford’s upcoming C-SUV. Rumour also has it that the home-grown carmaker might use the new SsangYong Korando platform for the next-generation XUV500.
Besides the comprehensive exterior and interior updates, the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will receive a new 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine replacing the existing 2.2L motor. This BS6-ready oil burner will deliver power close to 180bhp.
The SUV will also get a new turbocharged petrol engine. Mahindra is working on a new 1.5L and 2.0L turbo petrol powertrains. The latter one could be used for the new-generation XUV500. Transmissions on offer will be a manual and an automatic unit.
