It’s no secret that Mahindra & Mahindra is working on the new-generation Scorpio along with the Thar, Balero and XUV500 SUVs. If reports are to be believed, the next-generation Mahindra Scorpio will go on sale sometime in 2020. While the launch is a year away, a few important details of the SUV have surfaced on the web. 1. Designed By Mahindra & Pininfarina
The new Mahindra Scorpio 2020 will have an all-new design along with comprehensively revised interior and new powertrains. The SUV’s new-generation model will be designed by Mahindra owned Italian design firm – Pininfarina. Just so you know, the Mahindra Marazzo is one of the newly-launched Mahindra products that have been designed by Pininfarina and Mahindra Design Studio, Mumbai.
2. New Platform
One of the major changes will be made to its underpinning. Mahindra will use a slightly modified version of the body-on-ladder frame for the new-generation Scorpio. The same platform will also underpin the upcoming new Mahindra Thar and XUV500. 3. More Powerful Engine
Mahindra will equip new, more refined and powerful 2.0L diesel engine that will meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. This turborcharged powertrain will be relatively lighter and quieter than the existing 2.2L diesel motor. If reports are to be believed, the new Mahindra Scorpio 2020 will also get a newly-developed 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine delivering power close to 217PS. 4. Safer Than Before
The new platform and a set of extra safety features will make the new Mahindra Scorpio 2020 safer than the current generation. The new model is likely to get dual airbags (driver + passenger), ABS (anti-lock braking system), panic brake indication, seat belt reminder lamp and auto door lock as standard equipment. Currently, the aforementioned features are available from the S5 trims. The speed alert is offered only on the higher trims. 5. Up-market Interior
Besides an all-new design and platform, the new Mahindra Scorpio 2020 will witness significant changes inside the cabin. Material quality will surely be classed-up. The newly-designed dashboard, a new touchscreen infotainment system and an electric sunroof (top-spec only) might also be on offer. Mahindra might also offer several segment-first features on the SUV carline.
