To be based on Small Wide 4×4 platform, the second generation Jeep Renegade is reportedly to be launched in 2022
We reported earlier that American automaker Jeep is developing 2 new SUVs – a 7-seater Grand Compass and an all-new sub-4 meter SUV for the Indian market. The company is also readying the facelift version of the Compass SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in our market in early 2021. Jeep has also started working on the second generation Renegade SUV, which is reportedly to be launched in 2022.
The second generation Jeep Renegade will be based on the existing Small Wide Platform 4×4. This platform will also underpin the upcoming Grand Compass, but Jeep will work on reinforcements on the platform. The updated platform is expected to be stronger than the current one, which should improve the performance and off-road capabilities of the upcoming Renegade.
The current generation Renegade has recently been spotted testing in India. We believe that this could be the testing bed for a new engine or a different product. The upcoming sub-4 meter SUV will be based on the Fiat Panda’s 4×4 platform; however, the new model is reportedly to share the design cues from the Renegade. The compact SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300.
Previous media reports suggest that Jeep will launch the second generation Renegade in India. This model will be introduced as a slightly more premium alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It is reported that the next generation Jeep Renegade will make global debut in late 2021; however, the debut could delayed to 2022 due to Coronavirus Pandemic.
The second generation Jeep Renegade could use the Compass 2.0L diesel engine for the Indian market. The company could also introduce the 1.6-litre MJD diesel engine with the SUV. The petrol version will receive the 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that recently introduced with the European Compass.
