New-Gen Tata Nexon To Share Platform With Altroz – More Details

Tata Motors introduced its first subcompact SUV – Nexon – in 2017. With compact styling, efficient engines and affordable pricing, the model managed to generate volume for the automaker in the country. Currently, it’s available in 67 variants including Dark Edition, Kaziranga Edition and Jet Edition. Prices of the Tata Nexon start from Rs 7.70 lakh and go up to Rs 14.18 lakh (all, ex-showroom). In October 2022, the carmaker retailed 13,767 units of the Nexon registering a growth of 36 percent against the same month previous year.

Since its launch, the Nexon received multiple updates including new variants and special editions. Now, the company is planning to give a generation change to its top-selling SUV. Though, its official launch timeline and details are yet to be revealed. The new-generation Tata Nexon is likely to witness major changes in terms of design and features. One of the major updates will be made to its underpinning. The all-new Nexon is reported to be designed on the Alfa (Agile, Light & Flexible Architecture) platform that’s already used in the Altroz hatchback and Punch mini SUV.

The Alfa platform is compatible for different body styles, multiple engines, pure electric and hybrid powertrains. The carmaker says that the new architecture has been designed and developed “to deliver maximum luggage space, rear legroom, and utility space around the driver”. The new-gen Tata Nexon might share some of its design elements from the Tata Avinya or Tata Curvv concepts.

If reports are to be believed, the new-gen Tata Nexon could be offered with the same 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engines. Though, the carmaker might update them for better refinement. Speculations are on rife that the new Nexon might be benefited with the mild hybrid technology. If it happens, the subcompact SUV will offer better mileage than the existing model. With this update, the new Nexon will meet the upcoming stringent CAFÉ standards and updated BS6 emission norms.
