Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) that aims to achieve an annual sales target of 2 million by 2020, is planning to introduce a bunch of new cars and facelifts in the country. The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift and Swift Drize, codenamed YSD, are among the two major products that will help the company to further increase its market shares in the Indian automotive industry.
The new-gen Maruti Swift and Dzire will be manufactured at the company’s newly-setup Gujarat production facility. Since Maruti Suzuki is planning to produce 4.5 units/ annum of these two models, the production of the new-gen Swift and Dzire might be shared across company’s multiple plants. Just so you know, the Maruti Dzire compact sedan and Swift hatchback with sales of 18,718 units and 16,811 units have secured second and third positions on the list of best selling passenger cars in August 2015 respectively.

Powering the new-gen Maruti Swift and Dizre will be Suzuki’s self-developed 1.5-litre diesel engine (codenamed – E15A) that will coexist with the current 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. The new 1.5-litre diesel engine will take on the Ford Figo Aspire’s 1.5-litre TDCi and Honda Amaze’s 1.5-lite i-DTEC diesel engines. Similar to the Maruti Ciaz SHVS Hybrid, the Swift and Dizre’s existing Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel mill will be boasted with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicles by Suzuki) technology.
According to reports, Suzuki’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged engine, which might debut on the global model of the Baleno premium hatchback, could also be offered with the new Swift. Based on an all-new platform, the new-generation Maruti Swift and Dzire will feature a lightweight design that will make them more efficient than their existing models. Both the new models will be designed to cater future Indian safety norms and regulations.
