The new-generation Mahindra Thar will receive a 140bhp, 2.0-litre diesel engine.

It is no secret that Mahindra is working on the next-generation Thar SUV, which will be launched in India in 2020. A possible debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo can’t be ignored. According to AutoCarIndia, the new Mahindra Thar will be powered by a new 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, which will be compliant with BSVI emission norms. This engine will be more powerful than the existing 2.5L unit that produces 105bhp and 247Nm. The new engine is expected to offer 140bhp of power and over 300Nm of torque.

With the new and more powerful engine, the new-gen Mahindra Thar will be able to match-up with the performance of its arch rival – the Force Gurkha. The Gurkha recently gets a new 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 140bhp and 321Nm of torque. The new 2.0-litre diesel engine will also power the next-gen XUV500, but it will be tuned to offer 180bhp of power.
