The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will be powered by a newly developed 2.0-litre BS6 compliant diesel engine. This engine will also power the next-gen Thar and the XUV500, but in different states of tunes. Media reports suggest that this engine in the Scorpio could produce 170bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox will come as standard, while an automatic unit could join the lineup at a later stage.

The new Mahindra Scorpio will also grow in size and will ride on a longer wheelbase. Thanks to the increase in wheelbase, the SUV will offer more legroom space for all the occupants. Instead of side facing, the new model will have forward-facing third row of seats. The spy images reveal all-new interior with certain design inspired by the Mahindra Alturas G4. It is likely to get a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Features like steering wheel, gear knob, control stalks and the instrument console will be shared with the Marazzo MPV.
