New Hyundai i20 Walkaround

The next-gen Hyundai i20 and Grand i10 to get the 100PS, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine

Hyundai has recently launched the much-anticipated Venue sub-4 meter SUV in the country at a starting price of Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The sub-4 meter SUV also mark the debut of Hyundai’s new 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol engine and the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission in India. A new media report suggests that the next-gen Grand i10 and the Elite i20 could receive the new 1.0L T-GDI petrol engine.

Speaking to AutoCarPro, Puneet Anand, Sr. General Manager & Group Head – Marketing, Hyundai Motor India, said that if customers desires we could use the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine to other Hyundai products in India. “We have very strong products like the i20 and Grand i10 and we’ll be bringing such engines in higher-end models too.”

Introduced in 2014, the Hyundai’s 1.0-litre T-GDI 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine currently powers a wide range of global Hyundai cars. This engine offers two states of tunes – 100PS/172Nm and 120PS/172Nm. It currently powers the global-spec Hyundai i20. The Venue gets the 120PS version of the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It is expected that this engine could power the next-gen Hyundai Creta as well.

We believe that the next-gen Hyundai i10 and the next-gen Elite i20 could get the 100PS/172Nm version of the 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol engine. This engine is likely to be offered on the performance oriented version of the Elite i20 hatchback. Hyundai could also introduce the performance oriented ‘N Line’ variant. The next-gen Hyundai Grand i10 is likely to be launched in the end of this year, while the next-gen Hyundai i20 is likely to be launched in the mid-2020.
