New-Gen Honda City Mileage, Specs and All Details Officially Revealed

Honda Cars India has officially announced that the much-awaited all-new 5th generation Honda City will be launched in our market in July 2020. The company has also released the exterior, interior and specifications of the upcoming City sedan. Honda has confirmed that the new City will be India’s first connected car with Alexa remote capability.

Exterior Design & Dimensions

The company said that the new City design iis based on the new ‘Ambitious Sedan’ design language. The design is inspired by the Japanese Katana blade, a type of curved sword used by ancient samurai. The New-Gen Honda City features a sharp shoulder line that runs right from the headlamp all the way to the tail-lamp. It features the familiar Solid Wing Face with chrome front grille, daytime running lights, full LED headlamps with 9 LED Array Inline Shell, integrated LED DRLs and L Shaped LED Turn Signal.

The New-Gen Honda City features the Z shaped 3D Wrap-around LED tail-lamp with LED side marker lamps. It rides on 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheel design with shark gray paint. In terms of proportions, the new City is 4,549mm in length, 1,748mm in width and 1,489mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600mm. The new model is 109mm longer, 53mm wider and 6mm shorter than the outgoing City. It is the longest sedan in the category.

Interior

The interior of the New-Gen Honda City is based on “Ambitious Beauty” design theme, which shows high contrast and sophisticated textures and easy to use functionality. The sedan features dual-tone black and beige interor scheme. The all-new dashboard has soft pad and woody garnish and newly styled instrument console.

The New-Gen Honda City features a new 8-inch advanced touchscreen infotainment system, new AC dial with Red/Blue illumination, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift lever and ambient lighting in front footwell and map lamp with LED interior room lamps. The sedan gets 7-inch HD full colour TFT meter for multi-function driver information interface like trip meter, real-time fuel economy, digital speed and G-meter.

New Honda City Interior

The New-gen Honda City gets exclusive leather upholstery, centre armrest and door trims with soft pad and rear air-con system. The sedan is claimed to offer segment-leading 506-litres of boot space. Honda claims to have reduced the blind spot by making changes on the size of door mirrors, redesigned parcel tray and lower trunk lid. It is also claimed to offer best-in-class knee room and legroom. The new City also receives several utility storage spaces like smartphone tray in center panel, easy to access cup holders in the centre console, rear arm rest and 1L bottle holders in door pockets, and new sub-pockets for smartphones inside the front seat back pockets.

The new Honda City is based on the newly developed platform, which is claimed to be lighter and safer. The suspension set-up has been improved by reducing friction for better handling stability and ride comfort. The company claims that NVH levels have been improved using new technology like spray foam sound insulator in body, variable thickness insulator increased up to 3.5 times for engine undercover and full double sealing structure for door.

Engine Specs & Mileage

The new-gen Honda City is powered by a newly developed 1.5L i-VTEC DOHC with VTC (variable valve timing). This engine is capable of producing 121bhp of power at 6,600rpm and a peak torque of 145Nm at 4,300rpm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a new 7-speed CVT automatic. The CVT automatic gearbox comes with “full-open acceleration step up-shift control” and “brake operation step down-shift control” for reduced rubber-band effect.

While the manual version is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 17.8kmpl, the automatic version delivers 18.4kmpl. The oil burner is the BSVI compliant 1.5L i-DTEC engine that produces 99bhp at 3,600rpm and a peak torque of 200Nm at 1,750rpm. It is available in a single 6-speed manual gearbox. The diesel City is claimed to return an ARAI certified mileage of 24.1kmpl.

Safety

Talking about safety features, the new Honda City gets six airbags, VSA with Agile handling assist, hill start assist, tire pressure monitoring system, Honda LaneWatch camera, emergency stop signal, ABS with EBD and brake assist, multi angle rear camera, variable intermittent Wiper with headlight integration, pedestrian injury mitigation technology and neck-impact injury mitigating front seat head restraints.

In terms of features, the new-gen Honda City gets one-touch electric sunroof, automatic headlamp control with light sensors, follow-me-home/ lead-me-to-car headlamps with auto off timers, and auto dimming IRVM, all 4 power windows with auto up/down with pinch guard, steering mounted commander scroll switch, CVT with steering mounted paddle shifters, etc.

The sedan gets engine start/stop button, touch sensor based smart keyless access entry, electrical trunk lock with keyless release, walkaway auto lock, remote engine start and all power windows and sunroof keyless operation. The new City also gets next-gen Honda Connect with Telematics Control Unit that offers over 32 connected car features.
