New Ford SUV to challenge Hyundai Creta; Launch Timeline Revealed
Codenamed BX745, the new Ford SUV is expected to be launched in India in 2022.
We informed you earlier that Ford is developing 3 brand new SUVs for the Indian market. The first model will be a C-segment SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in late 2020 or early 2021. This new SUV will be the first product jointly developed by Ford and Mahindra. Besides this, the American automaker will launch 2 SUVs out of which one will sit under 4 meter in length. The company will also launch a mid-sized SUV to challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks.
Codenamed BX745, the new Ford SUV is expected to be launched in India in 2022. The other model will be a sub-4 meter SUV to replace the Ford EcoSport. This SUV is expected to be launched in 2021. Coming back to the Ford BX745, the 5-seater SUV is expected to use the SsangYong’s X100 platform that underpins the Tivoli SUV. Mahindra has also modified this platform to develop a sub-4 meter SUV, called XUV300.
Apart from the platform, the Ford BX745 SUV could share the engine with Mahindra. It is likely to get a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that currently powers the Mahindra Marazzo. This engine produces 120bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Mahindra will also launch the petrol-powered Marazzo by April 2020. The American automaker will invest close to $500 million to develop 2 brand new SUVs for the Indian market. The company is aiming to make India a manufacturing hub for its global operations including emerging markets.
