Speaking to TOI, person close to development said, “The current generation of Figo has been doing duty since March 2010 and has helped establish Ford in India. However, it is time that it makes way for the new3-generation model which is currently under development to tune it for Indian conditions. This should be out by next year”.

Ford unveiled the Figo compact sedan concept at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show as a concept. The production spec model will hit the market by the mid of 2015. It will also carry ‘Figo’ family nameplate along with its own individual identity. The similar badging is also seen in Maruti’s Swift hatch and mid-sized version, the Swift Dzire case.

The Figo has been Ford’s best selling product for sometime; however, the vehicle has been facing stiff competition in the market- especially from the likes of Maruti, Hyundai and Honda. The new generation Figo will be based on the ‘Ka’ compact vehicle, which has already arrived in India for R&D purpose. This hatchback has already launched in the Brazilian market. The Ford compact sedan and the hatchback will be manufactured at the company’s new production unit in Sanand in Gujarat by early next year.
