Italian automaker Fiat is gearing up to launch the Avventura crossover hatchback in the Indian car market. Scheduled to go on sale in the October, the bookings for the CUV have already commenced. Meanwhile, reports are coming that Fiat is also working a compact SUV to compete against the likes of Ford EcoSport. Codenamed as X3U, the compact SUV is reportedly based on a Palio (326 platform).

Interestingly, Fiat will launch the 500X crossover globally next year. It is based on the Jeep Renegade platform, which makes it costlier. The Italian automaker is aiming to mark its strong presence in the vacant sub-4 metre compact SUV. The Palio platform based compact SUV is likely to be unveiled at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The compact SUV is likely to get aggressive exterior looks and best-in-class ride & handling.

Fiat is also working on a new 1.5-litre multi-jet turbo diesel engine which is likely to be powered in the new compact SUV. The 1.5L motor is expected to be down-sized version of the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder Multi-jet turbo diesel engine. The exact power output details are still behind curtains; however, it is likely to offer a power output of over 100bhp. Moreover, this engine is likely to feature an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox.

This crossover is likely to be manufactured at Fiat’s Ranjangaon factory in Pune. The vehicle is likely to feature several local components to keep its costs low. Fiat is also planning to launch the Abarth 500 by year end and Jeep brand in 2015.
