Likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2019, the new-generation Maruti Ertiga crossover is expected to get 1.5-litre diesel engine

Japanese automaker, Suzuki had unveiled the 2018 Ertiga MPV at the 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show. The same model will also come to India during festive season, possibly around August 2018. We informed you earlier that Maruti is also working a crossover version of the Ertiga. If latest media reports are to be believed, the crossover variant will be launched in early 2019.

ET Auto report claims that the launch of the new-generation Ertiga will be followed by a “bigger sibling” six months later. Codenamed YHB, the new Ertiga crossover is likely to be bigger than the regular Ertiga and will have stronger road presence. It will have several crossover-like elements like body cladding, raised ground clearance, pronounced wheel arches and roof spoiler.

The second generation Ertiga is built on Suzuki’s new-generation HEARTECT platform, which is lighter, safer and stronger than the previous platform. The new model is 99mm longer, 40mm wider and 5mm taller than previous model. However, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,740mm. In terms of styling, the new model looks way modern and equipped with several high-end features. It is equipped with a new chrome grille, projector headlamps, new sculpted bonnet with prominent creases, new alloy wheels, new ORVMs with integrated blinkers, L-shaped LED rear combination lamps, roof spoiler and others. The cabin of the car seems inspired from new Dzire, but it has subtle changes. The new MPV gets a floating 6.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wooden inserts on dashboard and doors, new steering wheel and Dzire-inspired instrument console.

The Indonesian-spec Ertiga is powered by a new K15B 1.5-litre VVT four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. It replaces the K14B 1.4-litre VVT four-cylinder petrol engine. The India-spec model could continue with the existing set of engines. Besides, the MPV is likely to get a newly developed 1.5-litre diesel engine.
