New Ford EcoSport gets changes to exterior and interior along with a new 1.5L diesel engine

Ford, the American automaker has unveiled heavily revised version of the Ford EcoSport at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. This new model gets revised exterior styling, new interior, new technology and an all-new engine along with an optional all-wheel-drive layout. This new model is the European car, and the India-spec model is also likely to get similar changes.

In terms of styling, the refreshed EcoSport gets a revised front fascia. Instead of split grille, the new model gets familiar design similar to the one offered on new breed of Ford cars. It gets a fresh Mustang inspired headlamps with daytime running lights and new fog lamps. Changes to the rear are minimal in nature, as it has a refreshed bumper and restyled taillights. Additionally, it gets a new sporty EcoSport ST-Line variant that has aggressive looking bumpers and side skirts and new 17-inch alloy wheels.

The majority of the changes are visible inside the cabin. New switchgears and features seems inspired from the latest Fiesta. Features like steering wheel, gearstick and centre console, plus the central infotainment screen and others are directly lifted from its hatchback sibling. The company claims that the material quality has been improved, while the seats are all-new.

The updated EcoSport is now equipped with Ford’s latest SYNC 3 infotainment system. The base model will only get a 4.2-inch colour screen with USB ports and Bluetooth. Top-end model will have a floating colour touchscreen, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a secondary display also on offer, which is a 4.2-inch screen embedded in the instrument cluster.

Additionally, the European-spec EcoSport also gets a cruise control with speed limited functions. Other features include a rear view camera, automatic headlights and wipers, blind spot detection, automatic climate control and power-folding mirrors.

The updated model also gets a new 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 123bhp, but it will be made available from mid-2018. Paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, this model also has an all-wheel-drive system. The standard 1.5-litre diesel engine also gets a new gearbox. The petrol version is the same 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which is tuned to offer three power outputs – 99bhp, 123bhp and 138bhp.
