New 7 Seater SUVs, MPVs To Launch Within 1 Year

In the recent past, the Indian market have seen a significant rise in demand for seven-seater cars. Maruti Suzuki’s two 3-row MPVs – Ertiga and XL6 – have received excellent response from buyers, while Toyota Innova Crysta, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the Toyota Fortuner are also doing good sales in the market. Hyundai has also entered the 7-seater SUV category with the Alcazar, which is doing over 3,000 sales per month.

In this article, we talk about the list of upcoming new 7-seater SUVs and MPVs to be launched in the Indian market in the next one year –

1. Mahindra XUV700

Mahindra has announced the prices of the 5-seater version of the XUV700, which will be positioned against the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector. The company will announce the prices of the 7-seater XUV700 in October 2021. It will be offered with two seating configurations – 6-seater and 7-seater – with former getting captain seats in the middle-row.

The 3-row SUV comes with several segment-leading features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation and voice recognition, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium Sony-powered sound system. It also gets ventilated front seats, air purifier, powered driver seat with memory function, automatic AC, electronic parking brake etc.

The SUV also gets ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System) with features like blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness system, etc. The 7-seater model will be offered with two engine options – a 200bhp, 2.0L turbocharged petrol and a 185bhp, 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. It will be available with optional AWD (all-wheel-drive) system) and offer 4 drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom.

2. New-gen Mahindra Scorpio

After XUV700, Mahindra will launch the new generation Scorpio SUV in the first half of 2022. It will be based on the ladder-on-frame chassis, which also underpins the new Thar. It is reported that the new Scorpio will share its diesel engine with the entry-level XUV700 5-seater MX variant. It will receive a 155bhp, 2.2L mHawk diesel engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. The petrol version will get the 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Thar lifestyle SUV.

The new gen Mahindra Scorpio will grow in size, which is evident from the spy images. The SUV will also be equipped with several segment-leading features such as a 360 degree parking camera, a new touchscreen infotainment system, a flat bottom multi-functional steering wheel, leatherette upholstery, a semi-digital instrument console, forward facing third row seat, etc. The new Scorpio will also offer multiple airbags, hill start assist, ESC, EBD, ABS, automatic headlamps, etc.

3. Kia KY 7-Seater

Kia India has officially announced to introduce a new 7-seater family car in the country in 2022. Codenamed KY, the new model is reportedly to be based on the modified Creta’s platform that also underpins the Hyundai Alcazar. This model rides on 2,750mm long wheelbase, which is 150mm longer than the Creta’s wheelbase.

The Kia KY is expected to measure around 4.5 meters in length, which is in-line with the Alcazar and other 7-seater cars in the segment. It is likely to share the engine options with the Hyundai Alcazar, which includes a 159PS, 2.0L NA petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo-diesel. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

4. Hyundai Stargazer

If media reports are to be believed, Hyundai will launch a new 7-seater MPV in the Indian market in 2022. However, Hyundai is yet to make an official statement on the same. Hyundai is currently testing a 7-seater MPV in Korea as well as in Indonesia. Rumoured to be called the Hyundai Stargazer, the new 7-seater will be based on the Creta’s platform. It is reportedly to be manufactured at Hyundai’s Chennai based plant, and will be exported to Indonesia and other South Asian markets.

The new model is reportedly to measure around 4.5 meters in length, making it longer than the Creta. The new Hyundai Stargazer is expected to be offered with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. While the former is good for 113bhp and 145Nm of torque, the turbo-diesel engine produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely to be on offer.

5. Jeep Meridian

American SUV maker, Jeep will launch the 7-seater SUV based on the Compass platform in India in 2022. Called the Jeep Commander in Brazil, the new SUV is reportedly to be called the Jeep Meridian in our market. The SUV has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. It will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq and the VW Tiguan AllSpace.

The new Jeep Meridian sits on a 2,794mm long wheelbase, which is around 158mm longer than the 5-seater Compass. It measures 4769mm in length, 1859mm in width and 1682mm in height, which makes it 364mm longer, 41mm wider and 42mm taller than the Compass. The new Meridian is likely to be offered with 6-and 7-seat options. While the six-seater will get captain seats in the second-row, the 7-seater will get bench-type seats. The India-spec Jeep Meridian is most likely to use the twin-turbocharged version of the 2.0L diesel engine, which should produce around 200bhp and over 400Nm of torque.

6. Skoda Kodiaq Facelift

Skoda is preparing to launch the updated version of the Kodiaq 7-seater SUV in India in 2022. The production of the new Kodiaq facelift is likely to commence in December 2021. The vehicle will come with refreshed exterior design, upgraded interior and a BSVI compliant petrol engine.

It will be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 187bhp and 320Nm of torque. A seven-speed DSG automatic unit will come as standard. The company is not likely to launch the 4×4 version of the SUV.
