New 2023 Tata Harrier To Get Turbo Petrol Engine?

Tata Harrier is ready to receive a significant mid-life update in coming weeks. Bookings for the SUV’s updated model have already been commenced across the country. While details of the new 2023 Tata Harrier facelift are yet be revealed officially, it’s reported to come with the brand’s new 1.5L TGDi direct injection turbo petrol engine. The four-cylinder motor, which was first showcased at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo, delivers a claimed power of 170bhp at 5,000rpm and 280Nm of torque between 2,000rpm – 3,500rpm.

The carmaker’s new 1.5L turbo petrol engine will also be used in the ICE version of the Tata Sierra SUV that’s due for 2025. The same gasoline motor might power the upcoming Tata Curvv mid-size SUV and the updated Safari. Tata says that its new petrol engine has aluminium construction that makes it stiffer and more efficient and frugal. It has dual cam phasing, a variable oil pump and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head.

The new Tata TGDi petrol engine is boosted with a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger that’s claimed to improve its torque from lower in the rev range for better acceleration. The new motor has low cost of ownership, thanks to its new valve trains and timing chains. If launched, the Harrier petrol can be had with either a manual or an automatic transmission.

The new 2023 Tata Harrier facelift will continue to come with the existing 2.0L turbo diesel engine and the 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. The oil burner was recently updated to meet the stricter BS6 Phase II emission standards. It returns a claimed power of 170PS and 350Nm of torque.

Besides this, the new Harrier will come with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) tech offering advanced safety features. The SUV could also get multi-coloured ambient lighting, new upholstery, new touchscreen infotainment system and semi-digital instrument cluster and a 360 degree camera.
