Maruti Suzuki’s top-selling entry-level hatchback – Alto – is all set to enter into its third generation next month. While its official launch date is yet to be announced, a fresh media report states that the new model will arrive in last weeks of August 2022. The hatchback’s next-generation version will witness comprehensive changes in terms of design, features and engine mechanism. Here’re 5 major updates that will be made to the new 2022 Maruti Alto.
New Platform
Similar to the brand’s new breed of cars, the 2022 Maruti Alto will underpin the modular Heartect platform. The new architecture is likely to make it lighter and safer than before.
More Powerful Engine
Reports suggest that the automaker might offer the new 1.0L K10C Dualjet petrol engine on the hatchback’s third generation model. It’s the same powertrain that was recently offered on the updated S-Presso. The motor has been tuned for generating power worth 67bhp and 89Nm of torque. It will be slightly more powerful and torqueier than the existing 796cc engine. The latter could be offered only on lower variant. Buyers might also get the CNG fuel option.
Better Design
While the hatchback’s new model will retain the signature tall-boy design, it will carry more angular stance (especially at the front end). Some of its design elements could be borrowed from the new-gen Celerio. Upfront, the new Alto will feature updated and larger grille and bigger sweptback headlamps. Its roofline will be flatter and it will get pronounced fenders. The rectangular taillamps, bigger tailgate and revised bumper will further distinguish it from the current generation.
Bigger Than Before
The spy images reveal that the new Maruti Alto 2022 will be bigger than the existing model. However, the exact figures are yet to be revealed.
More Features
The Indo-Japanese automaker will equip the new 2022 Maruti Alto with a bunch of new features. It’s likely to get a touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, a semi-digital instrument console, newly-designed dashboard and central console, engine start/stop button and keyless entry.
