New 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 has finally gone on sale in India with a starting price tag of Rs 81,490 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new-generation Apache RTR 160 has witnessed multiple updates including new styling, new chassis and a more powerful engine. Deriving most of the design bits from the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and styling from the Draken concept, the new Apache RTR 160 looks more refreshing than the predecessor. The new-generation model of the bike comes in a total of three variants – Carb with front disc brake, Carb with front and rear disc brake and EFi with front and rear disc brake. With added features, a more powerful engine and updated mechanism, the new model is slightly pricier than the old model. While the Carb disc and double disc variants have been priced at Rs 81,490 and Rs 84,490 respectively, the EFi double disc version costs Rs 89,990. New 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 Design

This naked streetfighter rides on the new 4-valve double cradle split synchro chassis, which is already used in the Apache 180. TVS claims that this frame provides “excellent high-speed stability and best-in-class handling on/off-track”. As mentioned above, the 2018 Apache RTR 160 draws its design inspiration from the Apache RTR 200 4V and its styling is inspired by the Darken concept. The bike features new body panels and graphics and new LED lights. The tank shrouds get edgier new styling.

The new Apache RTR 160 has been assembled with two tyre options – road and off-road. Round the back, the motorcycle sports LED taillamp. The ‘double barrel’ style exhaust muffler has been borrowed from the Apache RTR 2004V. Other key updates include a new all-digital instrument panel, backlit LCD display. Etc. As mentioned in the beginning, the 2018 Apache RTR 160 naked streetfighter derives its power from the 159cc single-cylinder engine. While the Carb model produces a maximum power of 16.2bhp at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 14.8Nm at 6,500rpm, the EFi version delivers 16.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 14.8Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Power is channeled to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. The carburetted version of the bike can do 0-60kmph in 4.73 seconds with a top speed of 113kmph. 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 Suspension & Braking

For performing damping duties, the new-gen model gets monoshock rear suspension instead of the dual-shock unit. The front telescopic setup remains unchanged, though it gets thinner tubes. Braking system of the bike comprises of 270mm front and 200mm rear disc brakes. TVS has also introduced single-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) on the front wheel as standard. As a reminder, the ABS will be mandatory on 125cc and above motorcycles from April 2018. The 130mm rear drum brake is offered only on the carburetted version.
