Chevrolet has finally unveiled the much awaited 2016 Spark (Available as Beat in India) hatchback at the 2015 New York Auto Show. The company claims that the new Spark “offers greater efficiency and refinement, along with new, available safety and connectivity features.”
The new Spark gets an evolutionary exterior with a new dual-port grille upfront, which is flanked by more traditional headlamps. The bonnet lines flows upwards to merge into A-pillar, while the side crease runs along the length. Also visible is a sloping roofline, a new tailgate design with an integrated spoiler. The overall height has been reduced by 40mm, which company says will reduce aerodynamic drag to help improve efficiency.
Inside the cabin are the new, comfortable seats with higher-quality fabrics. The video revealed few details about the interiors, which now has advanced dot-matrix LCD instrument cluster display, trapezoidal air-conditioning vents and a Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with 7-inch display.
Under the bonnet is a new 1.4-litre Ecotec 4-cylinder engine that is good for 98bhp of power, around 16 per cent more than the current model. This engine can be connected to either a five-speed manual or an optional CVT (continuously variable transmission) gearbox. The Chevrolet Spark or Beat will be manufactured in South Korea and will be exported to more than 40 markets around the world.
