– Renault Kwid

French automaker, Renault introduced its smallest hatchback – Kwid in India in 2015. Since launch, the Kwid has been one of the best-selling cars in its category. This model comes with spacious cabin and an SUV-like face. But, it lacks safety and the India-spec model scored zero in the global NCAP crash test. In fact, the airbag equipped model failed to score in the crash test. Besides, the engines that power the Kwid are mediocre. In fact, Maruti’s 800cc or 1.0-litre K-Series engines are better in terms of performance and efficiency.

Maruti Celerio

The Celerio is basically the replacement for the A-Star, sitting between Alto and WagonR. Priced at Rs 4.20 lakh for base model, the Celerio is expensive when it comes to competition. Tata Motors is offering Tiago hatchback, which is more powerful, spacious and feature loaded than the Celerio. By adding another 50,000, one can opt for bigger cars like Maruti Swift or Hyundai Grand i10.

– Mahindra Thar

The next model in our list of most overrated cars in India is the Mahindra Thar. The Thar is one of the most popular off-roaders currently on sale in India. Not just as a lifestyle vehicle, it has also attracted adventure lovers. For people not in the known, the Thar is based on the Jeep CJ5 platform from 1960’s. – Hyundai i20 Active

We Indians love everything that looks like a crossover/SUV and the i20 Active is one such example. Despite being expensive, this cross-hatch is currently one of the best-selling models in its category. This model is priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, while its immediate competitor Ford Freestyle is available at a starting price of Rs 5.09 lakh. The competition offers more powerful engine and better driveability, while i20 Active only comes with cosmetic upgrades over the regular Elite i20.

Mercedes-Benz CLA

This is Mercedes-Benz entry-level sedan which was introduced to the Indian market back in 2014. It is currently the best-selling model in its category. The regular model is priced between Rs 31.71 lakh and Rs 35.13 lakh, while the AMG variant is tagged at Rs 75.19 lakh. The CLA is overrated in terms of driveability, cabin space and looks. One can go for Audi A3, which offers more space inside the cabin and elegant looks.
