Recently, Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa premium dealership network completed its 5 successful years in the country. Speaking to Autocar, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has revealed that the company is planning to expand its Nexa footprint and its product lineup in coming years. The Indo-Japanese carmaker is considering the SUV segments that have grown tremendously in the last few years.
Details of the upcoming products are still under the wraps. Though, the lineup is likely to include the 5-door Jimny SUV and a mid-size SUV. While the Jimny’s India launch is uncertain, the new Maruti compact SUV is likely to hit roads in early 2022. Maruti Suzuki’s new 5-seater compact SUV will be based on Toyota’s new DNGA modular platform that also underpins the newly-launched Toyota Raize.
Measuring around 4.3 meters, the new Maruti compact SUV will be gun up straight against the cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks. It would be quite early to comment on its design and engine. Though, its styling could be inspired by the new-generation Suzuki Vitara that will debut in October, 2020. The new compact SUV might carry upright stance, pronounced wheel arches with tyre size of up to 17-inches.
Reports suggest that the new Maruti compact SUV might be offered with a 1.5L SHVS petrol engine that also does duty in the Ciaz, new Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and XL6. The motor is likely to be updated for generating higher power and torque. The company is also working on a new 1.2L turbo petrol engine that might debut on the new mid-size SUV. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.
Besides this, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is planning to bring in a C-segment MPV based on Toyota’s B560 platform. In the company’s product lineup, the new MPV will be placed above the Ertiga.
