More Hyundai Cars To Get AMT Gearbox; Eon Will Stay In The Market

Hyundai aims to sell 8,000-10,000 units of the new Santro on monthly basis.

Considering the high demand of the AMT (automated manual transmission), Hyundai Motor India will soon introduce its Smart Auto technology on the upcoming new Santro hatchback. The company is also planning to offer AMT gearbox on other model lineups. The new-generation Hyundai Grand i10 and Xcent could the next two products to receive this technology.

Talking to an online media publication, YK Koo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, has also revealed that the Hyundai Eon is an important product for the company as the entry-level small hatchbacks hold 50% of the total sales of the compact car segment. Read: New Hyundai Santro Vs Renault Kwid

The South Korean carmaker will also consider to update the Eon lineup as per the upcoming BS6 emission norms. However, the investment for the compact diesel cars is significantly high. Talking about the new Hyundai Santro 2018, Mr YK Koo said that hatchback carline will be available in five petrol, two CNG and two AMT variants. In terms of pricing and positioning, it will sit between the Eon and the Grand i10. The exports of the new Hyundai Santro will begin from 2019. The company targets to export 20,000-30,000 units annually in Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa. For domestic and export markets, the South Korean carmaker will increase its production capacity by another 50,000 units/year with no further investment.
