Jeep India has introduced a new, more capable variant of the Wrangler SUV in the country. Called the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, the model has been priced at Rs 68.94 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This makes it around Rs 5 lakh more expensive than the standard model that costs Rs 63.94 lakh. Deliveries of the vehicle will be commenced from 15th March. At the heart of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The gasoline motor produces a maximum power of 268bhp against a peak torque of 400Nm. The SUV comes with Jeep’s RockTrac 4X4 AWD (all-wheel-drive) system.
What enhance off-road capabilities of the Wrangler Rubicon are electronic locking differential at the front and rear axles, full-time torque management and a two-speed transfer case with a 4:1 “4LO” low-range gear ratio. The electronically operated sway bar improves articulation and travel. The ground clearance has been increased by 2mm, measuring 217mm. Visually, the Wrangler Rubicon variant looks similar to the standard counterpart. Though, it carries ‘Rubicon’ monikers along with the 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels shod in 255/75R 17 Mud Terrain tyres. Design bits such as a removable hard roof and doors, a fold-down windshield are carried over from the standard model. Buyers have five colour options to choose from including Billet Silver, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Black and Bright White.
The new, more capable Wrangler variant is packed with lots of goodies including a 8.4-inch infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and navigation, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering with multiple controls, keyless entry and go, a 9-speaker Alpine audio system with an all-weather subwoofer and 552 watt amplifier, cruise control and engine start-stop. With respect to safety, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon offers four airbags, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), a Tyre Pressure Monitoring system, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera, Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) and Trailer Sway Control (TSC).
