Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Is Coming To India – Report

Japanese automaker, Mitsubishi will soon launch the Outlander 7-seater SUV in the Indian market. This model is powered by a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine paired to a CVT automatic gearbox. If latest media report is to be believed, Mitsubishi is also considering the Outlander PHEV – plug-in-hybrid SUV for Indian market. This model will be directly imported from Japan and is expected to carry a price tag of over Rs 35 lakh.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV hybrid is equipped with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 118bhp of power and 186Nm of torque. This engine works in tandem with two electric motors – one mounted above the front axle and one for the rear – that make 82bhp, each. The combined power output of the petrol-electric system stands at 203bhp, which is transmitted to all four wheels. The SUV has 12kW lithium-ion battery pack that provides power to the electric motors. This battery can be charged in just six and a half hours. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has three driving modes – all-electric, hybrid mode and petrol. This model is claimed to have a fuel efficiency of 58kmpl. In fact, the SUV can run up to 50km on pure electric power and attain a top speed of up to 120kmph. While the standard model is a 7-seater SUV, the hybrid SUV is a 5-seater model. Compared to the 7-seat model, the Outlander PHEV is around 260kg heavier weighing 1,860kg. The size of the fuel tank has also been reduced from 60-litres to 45-litres. Design wise, the PHEV Outlander is largely identical to the regular model. However, it will have PHEV badging with blue highlights. Both models are expected to share same safety features including seven airbags, hill-start assist and active stability control. In terms of features, the SUV is likely to come with keyless go, automatic headlights and wipers, an electric sunroof, cruise control, an electric parking brake, dual-zone climate control and a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
