Mitsubishi Motors that launched the Pajero Sport facelift and automatic variant is now focusing more on SUVs for the Indian car market. The company will launch two new SUVs next year, which we believe could be the new Outlander and Montero. The Japanese maker is also working on a compact SUV based on the Renault-Nissan platform, which is also likely to make its way to Indian market in next 2-3 years. Adding to it, the manufacturer is also expanding its dealership base to 48 by March 2015.
If media reports are to be believed, Mitsubishi is also contemplating mass market products for the Indian auto industry. The company is considering the Mirage hatchback and the Attrage compact sedan for its mass market entry into the growing Indian market. However, both products will not come before 2016-17. Both models are currently on sale in several developing nations. Under the hood are the 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol units.
To get success in the Indian car market, one needs to have competitively priced budget cars. Mitsubishi is aiming to improve its after sales network and affordability of its spare parts before introducing its budget cars in the market. For this, the Japanese manufacturer is likely to make huge investments in India.
Not just budget products, the company will also need small diesel engines in India. The Mirage and Attrage will compete against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 and Honda City, respectively. To get success, both products need to get oil burners in the market.
