Mitsubishi, the Japanese car manufacturer that launched the Pajero Sport facelift and automatic is now aiming to expand its lineup in the growing Indian market. The company is now aiming to enter into the mass market segment including hatchback and compact sedan. Mitsubishi is planning to launch series of new cars post the end of its contract with Hindustan Motors in 2015. First come will be the two compact SUVs next year, followed by smaller models- the Attrage and Mirage in 2016.
The Mirage is a sub-4 metre hatchback and will compete against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Swift. On the other hand, the Attrage is mid-sized sedan and will rival against the Sunny, Etios and Chevrolet Sail. Both models are expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol unit that is good for 78PS of power and 100Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the company might also introduce the automatic version. It is also expected that the diesel version of the hatchback and sedan could also make its way to Indian market.
The new Mitsubishi Attrage and Mirage is expected to be manufactured at the company’s Tamil Nadu facility. In order to reach maximum buyers, the company is also aiming to expand its dealership network in India by 2015 end. Mitsubishi is also working on a new compact SUV, which will be based on Renault-Nissan cars.
