Morris Garages (MG) aims to expand its Indian product portfolio with a range of new models in the next 2-3 years. Speaking to carandbike, Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG Motor India, has revealed that the company is planning a small SUV that will be positioned below the MG Hector. It will be the most affordable offering from the British carmaker in the country. The new MG small SUV is likely to be a sub-4-meter SUV priced below Rs 10 lakh.

The new MG small SUV will hit our shores around April, 2021. Once launched, it will take head-to-head against the cars like Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Kia Sonet. The new subcompact SUV from MG will be offered with petrol or diesel engine option. There will be no electric powertrain.

After launching the subcompact SUV, the carmaker will bring in the MG G10 MPV that made its public debut at this year’s Auto Expo. Here, it will lock horns against the Kia Carnival and is estimated to be priced under Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). The MPV will come in 7 and 8-seats layouts along with features such as MG’s iSmart Connected technology, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, powered sliding rear doors, automatic climate control and more.

Powering the MG G10 (global-spec) is a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that can be had either with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. The motor delivers a maximum power of 223bhp and 345Nm of torque. It’s also offered with a 1.9L diesel and a 2.4L diesel engine options. Engine details of the India-spec model are still under the wraps.

This year, MG Motor India will bring in the Hector Plus and Gloster 7-seater SUV. While the former is slated to see a release in June, the latter one will come near around festive season (possibly in October, 2020).
