MG Hector Will Be The First SUV From MG In India; Launch In Mid 2019
The new MG Hector SUV will go on sale in India by mid 2019.
MG Hector will be the first SUV from the SAIC owned MG Motor in India. The carmaker has dropped a couple of videos teasing the minor design details of the SUV and revealing its official name. The company has also confirmed that the MG Hector will go on sale in mid 2019. The SUV has been named after the legendary British biplane ‘Hector’ and “draws inspiration from the noble qualities of the warrior hero of Homer’s Iliad – Prince Hector of Troy”
The company says that MG Hector pays tribute to great British engineering tradition, as a nod to the Royal Hector biplane, used by the Royal Air Force in the 1930s. The new MG 5-seater SUV is currently in its testing phase, and caught on camera multiple times. In India, the MG Hector will take head-to-head against the cars like Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming Tata Harrier. With heavy localization, the MG SUV is estimated to be priced between Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

While the official details of the new MG SUV will be revealed near its launch, it is reported to come with the Fiat-sourced 2.0L Multijet diesel engine. This motor makes a top power of 170PS and 350Nm of torque. It’s the same powertrain that does duty to the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier. The SUV carline will also be made available with petrol engine that too will be sourced from the Compass – i.e. 160PS, 1.4L. Both manual and automatic gearbox will be on offer. Just so you know, MG Motor is a subsidiary of the Chinese auto giant SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). The company has established a manufacturing plant in Halol, near Vadodara in Gujarat. Earlier, it was owned by General Motors.
