MG To Launch 5 New Cars In India In Next 2 Years

The second MG product in India will be an all electric SUV.

MG Motor, owned by Chinese auto giant SAIC, is all set to commence its Indian operations with the MG Hector premium SUV. The company has also confirmed that its second product for India will be an electric vehicle – MG eZS. Talking to ET Auto, Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director – MG Motor India, revealed that the eZS all electric SUV will be priced below Rs 10 lakh. He also shed some light on the company’s future plan for India.

The British carmaker has top down strategy for India and aims to launch five new products in the next two years. The four products have already been approved by the company’s headquarters and planned by its local team. The company has a 10 year strategy divided into three phases. Initially, MG Motor will focus to ‘get fundamentals in place’ and building its brand.

In the second phase (2021-22), it will target high volumes segment along with network expansion, increasing localization and manufacturing capacity and get more linkages to the economy. The company will make an investment of Rs 5000 crore in the country. Mr. Rajeev has revealed that the firm has already invested Rs 2300 crore for the phase-1 and it will finalise its manufacturing expansion plans for phase-2 by the end of 2019.

The Indian operations of the MG Motor is managed only by Indians, while its UK and China based experts share their expertise on the technology and engineering aspects. With its future-ready programs and R&D, the British carmaker aims to tap the growing Indian market in coming years.
