MG Motors To Launch A Compact SUV in India To Rival Kia Seltos

MG Motors has officially announced to launch 4 new SUVs in the Indian market in the next 1-2 years. The company is gearing up for the launch of the eZS pure electric SUV, which is scheduled to make India debut on December 5, 2019. Apart from the electric SUV, MG will launch the 7-seater Hector and the Maxus D90 premium SUV in the first half of 2020. What’s interesting is that MG is also planning to launch an all-new compact SUV in India.

The new compact SUV will be positioned under the Hector. It will directly rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and others in its category. The new MG compact SUV is likely to be launched in our market by the end of 2020. In fact, MG could showcase the India-spec model at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Baojun RS-3 specs

It is expected that the MG’s upcoming compact SUV will be based on the all-new Baojun RS-3, which has recently been launched in the Chinese market. For people not in the know, MG and Baojun owned by SAIC Motors, and the MG Hector is basically the re-engineered Baojun 530 SUV.

Dimensionally, the new Baojun RS-3 compact SUV is 4,305mm in length, 1,748mm in width and 1,597mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,550mm. The dimensions are similar to the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta, which makes it a possible product for MG to bring in our market. Adding to it, this segment is currently the hot favorite and fast growing.

Baojun RS-3 China

The Baojun RS-3 is powered by a 104bhp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine matched with a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. This model replaces the Baojun 510 compact SUV, which was spotted testing in India.
