MG Motor To Launch 2 New SUVs This Year
The second MG model in India will be an electric SUV.
MG Motor is all set to foray into the Indian market this year. The carmaker recently announced official name of its first model – MG Hector – that will be placed against the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the newly-launched Tata Harrier. To be produced locally at the company’s Halol plant in Gujarat, the new premium 5-seater SUV will see a release in mid 2019.
The carmaker has also confirmed that its next launch for this year will be an electric SUV. While name and details of the vehicle are yet to be revealed, it’s likely to be the MG EZS that was unveiled at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China. Read: MG ZS Compact SUV – 5 Things You Need To Know
Official details of the MG Hector SUV are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to come with both petrol and diesel engine options and an automatic gearbox. The teaser video shows that the SUV will feature a large front grille, sleek LED indicators and an all black interior with features such as ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and traction control.
The MG EZS is a pure-electric vehicle that uses an upfront mounted electric motor for generating power. It develops power worth 150PS against 350Nm of torque, and is claimed to deliver an electric range of 428km. The SUV can accelerate 0 to 50kmph in 3.1 seconds. If launched in India, the MG EZS will take on the Hyundai Kona electric SUV that’s scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2019. Price of the electric SUV is estimated to be around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
