MG Maxus D90, VW Tiguan AllSpace – 2 New Fortuner Rivals Coming to India

MG Maxus D90 India Launch

Toyota had launched the new generation Fortuner SUV in early 2016. Ever since its launch, the new model has been the best-selling 7-seater premium SUV in the market. The company is also readying the facelift version of the Fortuner SUV, which is expected to arrive in our market in early 2020. 2 brand new 7-seater premium SUVs are ready to hit our market, which will directly rival the Toyota Fortuner.

Buoyed by excellent response for the Hector, MG Motor is now readying 4 brand new SUVs for the Indian market. The company will soon launch the eZS pure electric SUV and the Hector 7-seater model in India in early 2020. MG is also readying a compact SUV to challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The company is also testing an all-new 7-seater premium SUV, called the Maxus D90 in India.

It is expected that the MG Maxus D90 will be launched in our market in the mid-2020. The India-spec model is likely to come with a different nameplate, but its design and interior will be exactly similar to the Chinese sibling. Built on a light truck platform, the new Maxus D90 is 5,005mm long, 1,932mm wide, 1,875mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,950mm. It is significantly longer and wider than the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.

The Chinese-spec MG Maxus D90 is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing a maximum power output of 221bhp along with a peak torque of 360Nm. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The German automaker, Volkswagen is gearing up for the launch of the 7-seater Tiguan SUV in India. The new model will arrive in our market in early 2020, most probably around Auto Expo 2020. The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will arrive in our market as a CKD (Completely Knocked-Down Unit) and will be assembled at the Group’s Aurangabad facility. In terms of proportions, the Tigual LWB model is 4,712mm in length, 1,839mm in width, 1,673mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,791mm. In comparison with the regular Tiguan, the Allspace is 226mm longer and has 110mm longer wheelbase. It is expected to be powered by a 143bhp, 2.0-litre diesel engine.
