MG Hector to get fuel efficient Petrol Hybrid Engine; Launch within 2 Months

MG Hector’s 143bhp, 1.5L petrol engine will be coupled with 48-Volt mild-hybrid system

British automaker, MG Motors is leaving no stone unturned to make a strong impact in the highly competitive Indian market. The company will introduce the much-anticipated Hector SUV in the next 2 months. What’s interesting is that the MG Hector will be the most technically advanced SUV in its category. The SUV will be fitted to several segment-leading technologies and features.

What’s more interesting is that the upcoming MG Hector SUV will be equipped with a petrol-hybrid option. This model will join the regular petrol and diesel engine versions. The SUV will be fitted to a 143bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which will be coupled to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This new mild hybrid system will offer additional 20Nm of torque at low speeds that will reduce the turbo lag and offers improved acceleration in traffic situations. The MG Hector SUV will also get regenerative braking, which will charge the 48-volt battery, and an automatic engine stop-start system that will help in improving the fuel efficiency.

The report claims that the new MG Hector mild-hybrid model will be around 12 per cent more fuel efficient than the standard petrol variant. The mileage number is likely to be equivalent to the diesel model, which should help MG to counter the rising prices of the Hector diesel post April 2020. The mild-hybrid system will also help MG Hector to meet tightening CAFE norms. The MG Hector diesel model will be equipped with a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which will be sourced from the Fiat Chrysler Automobile. This engine produces 173bhp of power and 350Nm of torque.

The MG Hector will come with the most advanced cabin its category. It will be the first connected SUV in India, offering internet car functionalities. The Hector will be equipped with its own operating system. Adding to it, the SUV will have an e-SIM card with features like biometrics, real-time traffic info and navigation and AI assistance. It will be the first SUV in India to feature over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Additionally, the MG Hector SUV will be equipped with segment-leading features like largest-in-segment panoramic sunroof, India’s largest 10.1-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system, 360 degree camera and electronic parking brake. The SUV will be fitted to all LED lights, and LED daytime running lights that will double-up as dynamic turn indicators.
