MG Hector To Get A More Powerful Diesel Engine; Details Revealed
MG Hector has been one of the most important launches of this year. Priced from Rs 12.18 lakh to Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom), the SUV comes in four variants and multiple drivetrains and gearbox combinations. The company will further expand the Hector lineup with a new, more powerful diesel variant that will go on sale in 2022.
SAIC has developed a 2.0L, twin-turbocharged diesel engine that dishes out a peak power of 218bhp and 480Nm of torque. The new oil burner recently made its debut on the MG Maxus D90 7-seater SUV at the Guangzhou motor show in China. The same powertrain will be used in the MG Hector.
Currently, the MG Hector diesel variant comes with the Fiat-sourced 2.0L engine pushing out a maximum power of 168bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. The petrol models are powered by a 1.5L, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine generating power worth 141bhp and 250Nm of torque. The MG Hector SUV lineup is also available with a hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.5L motor and a 48 Volt mild hybrid system. It can be had with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The lithium-ion battery allows storing energy and delivers 20Nm of extra torque when required.
